Last week we had a competent ordinary surgeon, out of his depth. This week... Judge for yourselves.
On the topic of Skullgirls, it's good to see their new characters coming along so nicely. I'm looking forward to seeing how Beowulf and Robo-Fortune work.
31st Aug 2014, 9:48 PM
As you can probably see by the colorless version
(here's a link for when the colored version goes up)
, sometimes I choose my own colors when drawing the lineart.
I usually do this when I want things to appear without lines, like the electricity in panel 5. Or sometimes it's just my OCD showing through, like the fuchsia crosses on Valentine's outfit. Oh well.
1st Sep 2014, 10:28 PM
Oh hey it's Valentine,
that character I based a really obscure gag on like, 12 comics ago.
Still rocking the fuchsia cross.
7th Oct 2014, 6:59 AM
In case it isn't apparent I've never played Skullgirls. Not a fighting game enthusiast here. So Ivy is a bit off-model. Her buttons are flipped and she's missing her boots (although I drew the crosses anyway for some reason). I was using a really crappy reference so now you know. My art style is basically an "approximation" of what the characters look like anyway, which is probably not the best approach. Anyway I'm trying to improve on this style by actually using proper reference and researching characters thoroughly before I draw, so hopefully improvements will be coming.
EDIT: Did I seriously put Ivy Valentine? Ivy Valentine, that's the freaking Soul Caliber character. I haven't even played Soul Caliber! God, I give up.
7th Oct 2014, 2:32 PM
You also missed the fact that she's cross-eyed (*BA-DUM TISH*), but to be fair I didn't notice it until 404 drew her with the tiny cross pupil.

Tubba Blubba's heart, a Koffing... Were those extracted from Roger???
They should not be in a human body, as an earlier strip has shown for the Weezing.
31st Aug 2014, 11:28 PM
there is also a Metroid hiding behind the speech bubble
1st Sep 2014, 2:30 PM
I think the joke is koffing is the lungs, tubba blubba's heart is (duh) the heart, the metroid is the brain....
2nd Sep 2014, 1:24 AM
Then explain the brain in the tub Valentine's sitting on...
Maybe the Metroid signifies all of Roger's white blood cells taking on a singular body.
2nd Sep 2014, 1:37 AM
I kind of just drew random things that would fit in an organ transplant cooler, there isn't really any joke there.
The Weezing is a reference to the Hire Expectations arc, though
3rd Sep 2014, 1:32 AM
Hey, let us have our own joke for this, alright?
1st Sep 2014, 8:10 AM
...you want me to judge this "doctor"?
This doctor is skilled at her work and enjoys doing it. If you need a corpse taken apart quickly and efficently, she's highly recommended. However, she does have difficulty following instructions, tending to do what she wants rather than what's requested or required for the scheduled surgery. All in all, not appropriate for a hospital without a morgue.
(No, I do not count this hospital as having a morgue, no matter how regularly Wilco dies there. The 1 Ups are used instead.)
1st Sep 2014, 9:08 PM
Quickly and efficiently, are you kidding me?
With her damage output and ridiculously long combos (damage scaling's a bitch, it is), you're not getting anything done quickly without a solid assist and a couple of resets.
Damn her grab.
3rd Sep 2014, 1:46 AM
However, she has shown great care to keep Roger's hair on the skeleton, which must have required a lot of precision.
3rd Sep 2014, 2:41 AM
That or she found a hair transplant inconsequential...
3rd Sep 2014, 9:08 AM
"Quickly and efficiently" in this case is referring to the fact that she took the entire body apart efficiently in under what I assume was 5 to 10 minutes.
Also, I don't play most fighting games, so I didn't take her combo's into account.
14th Sep 2014, 4:22 PM
I imagine that having a morgue in the video game world is a MASSIVE risk factor. Think of how many zombie apocalypses and horror games feature morgues. It probably requires special permits and monitoring by the authorities in this world.
2nd Sep 2014, 12:35 AM
Well, Dr. Gardevoir's going to have plenty of work after these trials are over.
I may need to see her and all.
7th Sep 2014, 4:07 AM
Have fun getting to Venatus Prime, then.
5th Sep 2014, 3:47 PM
Huh, had a feeling she was going to show up after all...
10th Sep 2014, 11:38 AM
I don't know why, but for some reason, I just can't picture anything other than a female voice for Roger's narrator. Maybe it's the way it's written?
I know the voice is male in the games, but who knows? Maybe he got a new one after the VG Apocalypse happened?
EDIT: Okay, I give up. What's the gag in panel 2?
10th Sep 2014, 1:20 PM
The view of Rodger being dissected by this "doctor" is so horrifying that it shocked a highly qualified nurse (Chansey), the robotic head of a hospital (Roll) and a fully trained psychiatrist (Dr. Gardevoir), all of whom have seen horrors, especially when done to the person being dismembered (Rodger).
Please note, I believe that Psychiatry Training (in our world, at least) requires you to cut up corpses the same way that Doctor Training does. (Checks Wikipedia). Okay, Psychiatrists need to qualify as doctors before they can qualify as Psychiatrists. This means that, yes, Dr. Gardevoir has likely cut up corpses herself (she didn't perform surgery, she just learned the basics of doing so).
10th Sep 2014, 4:20 PM
It's a cooking joke; see the alt text. Specifically, to julienne is to cut something, usually food, into short and thin strips.
10th Sep 2014, 10:07 PM
Wait, wait, wait, your basing this off of Wikipedia's info? When has Wikipedia EVER been right?
11th Sep 2014, 10:06 AM
@ Dead Falling: I used Wikipedia as a confirmation, not as the starting point. Besides, Wiki's often right enough, it's just that there's the odd thing which is grossly wrong because people like to mess with other people. And joke for the sake of joking.
@ DryKirby64: I thought that the alttext was just saying "Hey, I know what these words mean and am using them correctly", and the joke was still "this is horrifying these people who see horrors on a regular basis".
11th Sep 2014, 12:40 PM
Wikipedia's ALWAYS right.
13th Sep 2014, 12:59 PM
Well thanks. Now I'm playing Skullgirls again.
13th Sep 2014, 3:40 PM
15th Sep 2014, 7:09 PM
Wish I could get into skullgirls, I just can't learn fighting game at all. Kind of wish they had some sort of spin off beat em up or specticle fighter by platiume,,,that be awesome.
17th Sep 2014, 6:52 PM
heh I wish.
16th Sep 2014, 12:08 PM
When are we going to get the next page?
16th Sep 2014, 4:31 PM
Giga started college so I think he's having some time to adjust. He should have it done soon but I need to start asking for guest comics again so we don't have another situation where we don't update for ages.
17th Sep 2014, 12:53 PM
Okay. I understand that.
16th Sep 2014, 5:36 PM
Haha! Found your comic on the BitF forums somehow, and just read through them all! I love it, continue the awesome work!
21st Sep 2014, 8:53 PM
Hehehehehehehehe their faces in panel 2. Especially Roll's! How does she make her eyes look all static like that? How did the ARTIST make her eyes look all static like that? Good job on this one btw. And I'm still alive guys.
