Well this arc is nearly at a close. I hope you've enjoyed and stick around for the conclusion next week. If you missed it, the last one's color version is now up.
I'm working to get a 5 thousand word project done so I can't stay to chat.
13th Apr 2014, 2:28 PM
Work dat hat, gurl.
13th Apr 2014, 4:28 PM
Guybrush told me to draw "fighting characters at the gym", and the image of Cerebella bored while her hat exercises wouldn't leave my mind until I drew it.
I also wanted to draw Guilty Gear's Faust on an exercise bike, because it would have been hilarious. However, we don't have a ton of space in the panels, and I felt that I should put Ryu in there - since he's more iconic and looks like he actually exercises.
Happy Homestuck Day!

So how about that Smash Direct huh?
Never before has anything crushed so many of my dreams while remaining so hype.

did the good doc just troll dawn?
13th Apr 2014, 3:56 PM
I'm sure it was just a misunderstanding.
Gardevoir's been away from the Pokeverse and around giant male power fantasy types for long enough to honestly think that she was talking about that type of gym.
13th Apr 2014, 8:40 PM
Yeah I feel like Gardevoir just trolled Dawn.
17th Apr 2014, 5:11 AM
After rereading this page, I'm not sure this isn't the type of Gym Dawn asked for.
Sure there aren't pokemon to fight, but Street Fighter does have a similar setup to the Battle Frontier facilities.
Namely, fight/marathon all the lower level warriors(/trainers) until you reach the top fighter(/frontier brain).
So long as their is a badge-like or ribbon-like trophy she can win, Dawn will probably get her Gym kicks with this crowd.
13th Apr 2014, 5:30 PM
That city is not weird, it is logical! (For once...)
13th Apr 2014, 6:08 PM
I'm pretty sure if Dawn said Pokemon Gym this mistake would have been avoided but then again it might have been a gym where fighting types work out.
13th Apr 2014, 8:22 PM
Maybe it's because I don't play Pokémon games... ever... but I never understood what the point of those Gyms was. Is any actual training actually going on there? Ever?
Maybe I should play a Pokémon game sometime...
13th Apr 2014, 8:40 PM
I remember in the original Pokemon anime that Ash and co. came across a conventional Gym in one episode and were baffled.
20th Apr 2014, 8:35 AM
14th Apr 2014, 5:10 PM
I'm guessing Dawn saw the girl whose HAT is training. That's the thing with fighting characters. They might use the gyms, but they're still just as weird.
Also, have we considered the possibility that Gardevoir has never seen a Pokémon Gym? Just because she's past level 30 doesn't mean she has been used against a Gym Leader by her Trainer. If she ever had one.
Come to think of it, we'll need an arc about Gardevoir's pre-English speaking years at some point.
15th Apr 2014, 4:13 PM
We'll get to the early days soon enough. for now, let's see where the present is going.
15th Apr 2014, 6:32 PM
Yeah, no hurries. An enormous arc is about to end. We sure can wait for the next one.
My theory is that Gardevoir is one of the hundreds of Pokémon raised by a Trainer who kept using a single team all the time, and thus had her level up by the Exp. Share for the most part. Never felt much of the so-called "friendship" with her Trainer, so when he/she released her (maybe because he/she caught something "more valuable", we all know how selfish we can be as Trainers as we're playing the games), she was just glad not to be resting in the PC anymore.
But this is all just a theory. A plausible one, but still just a theory based on my observations as a Pokémon gamer.
15th Apr 2014, 6:46 PM
You may be reading too deeply into a comic where we make fun of Kratos' anger issues.
15th Apr 2014, 7:19 PM
Hey, just thinking about a possibility, after all.
15th Apr 2014, 12:15 AM
Personally, I think that there are conventional gyms in the Pokémon universe -- they're just not made for humans. Notice how they're usually referred to as "Pokémon Gyms"? And that your Pokémon are the ones doing the training there?
15th Apr 2014, 3:47 PM
I imagine Gardevoir would have to have a trainer (probally an npc) Since you can't catch wild Gardevoir in any game and well pokemon can't evolve in the wild in the game verse unless it a plot event.
15th Apr 2014, 4:12 PM
Don't forget, there's wild Gardevoir in the spin-offs like Pokemon Ranger.
17th Apr 2014, 5:59 PM
I was thinking that, if I ever decide to pick up a Pokémon game, I'd try to get my hands on a Gardevoir specifically because of this comic. How do you do that then, if they're not in the wild?
18th Apr 2014, 2:57 AM
You catch a Ralts or a Kirlia and evolve it.
18th Apr 2014, 12:14 PM
here's a list of where you can catch Ralts
. It's a rare Pokemon so you gotta keep trying.
27th Apr 2014, 2:04 PM
Thank you. I did end up buying a game, and I caught one. Now the grinding begins...
15th Apr 2014, 9:39 PM
After this arc is over, maybe you could do a few strips about the MASSIVE information dump, a.k.a. - the Super Smash Bros. Direct, from last week. For instance, the fact that GRENINJA IS IN SMASH BROS.
15th Apr 2014, 11:38 PM
I made a Greninja part of Meta Knight's little group and BAM, he now a Smash Bro. My powers of prediction amaze and baffle me once again.
16th Apr 2014, 2:20 AM
Sheik was confirmed the same day…
17th Apr 2014, 10:00 AM
guybrush,this is a important task
you must cameo geno in EVERY SINGLE STRIP from now on
20th Apr 2014, 6:00 PM
Are you magic?
16th Apr 2014, 10:26 PM
Yeah I like these comic series like this one, but yeah I really think you should do a Smash comic. Would be really funny, and you could talk to the characters who have been given the boot. *Cough* Couch* *Jigglypuff* cough*
17th Apr 2014, 1:20 AM
No one's been deconfirmed yet.
Pokemon still has room for two other characters to meet the par of Brawl's six (considering PT as three separate characters connected by a downB).
Not to mention that Jigglypuff has been a secret character since the first game and probably won't be revealed until the game launches if at all.
17th Apr 2014, 2:05 AM
I was thinking that the other two Pokémon characters would be Jigglypuff, and a grass-type starter, to compliment Greninja and Charizard. Sceptile, perhaps?
17th Apr 2014, 3:51 AM
Do people actually like Sceptile.
I mean, I do, but I didn't think anyone else did, he seemed kinda overshadowed by Mudkipz and Blaziken.
My money's on Torterra for the middle-gen Grass starter personally.
17th Apr 2014, 9:55 AM
snivy would be awesome
he could have a skin where he wears the scumbag steve hat
20th Apr 2014, 1:29 AM
Actually, looking at the list of Grass Starter Pokemon, if they DO go for the "three elements of starters", they're likely to go "three different generations of starters" too.
If that's the case, Sceptile (who I liked to use) is the easiest/most likely for them to put into the Smash Bro's. He's the only Grass Starter max evolution (excluding Chesnaught due to the generational doubleup) who has arms, allowing him to make "simple" attacks without using Vine Whip.
Of course, they could just have a grass starter use Vine Whip again, but that just seems boring to me.
20th Apr 2014, 6:03 PM
Actually, groyvel is rather special to me because of mystery dungeon.
24th Apr 2014, 11:32 PM
Hope we haven't burned through the list of all the newcomers. I would be happy if there were at least 2 more... but would that be too much to ask for?
25th Apr 2014, 1:11 AM
We're near guaranteed to get at least one at E3 but maybe they'll reveal multiple ones... NO, Bad Guybrush! Keep the hype in check.
